The Energy Efficiency rate of an elevator is measured by::
- A reduced power consumption in the running phase, upwards and downwards travel;
- a virtually inexistent power consumption in the stand-by phase, when the lift is not working.
A lift is regarded to be highly energy efficient when the total power consumption, that is running + stand-by phase in a given time and with the same number of travels turns out to be the lowest.
An important fact must be taken into consideration and that is: a typical passenger lift in a residential building is 70% - 80% of the time in a stand-by phase.
- Traction gearless lifts have a limited power consumption in the running phase , but are extremely energy demanding in the stand-by phase.
